a lovely shot jeff took of me, kirk, and dad as we enjoyed shave ice in kauai. dad had been craving it since he had arrived on the island and managed to hold out until we made it to the place that is thought of to be the best on kauai. jojo's...with like, 50 flavors. no red beans, though. that was a little disappointing.

so where to begin and where to end?

there were many wonderful parts of our recent trip to hawaii. loco moco in hilo. pele and her volcanoes. local eats in lihue. nenes. chickens. shave ice. hiking. laughing so hard as we rode around in the back of the car with my dad driving and my brother navigating.

but there were some not so wonderful part. rain. losing my favorite floppy hat. throwing away my favorite reef sandals because they bloomed an awful stench after an ill-fated hike down and back from "secret beach." ending up in urgent care with a kidney infection. getting a shot in my butt for the kidney infection. the $500 plus bill for my trip to urgent care.

but anyway...

it's getting a little easier every day.



and at first, i was having a really tough time remembering all of the fun and funny stuff that had happened during our trip to hawaii. so it's a good thing we took pictures, because even though it wasn't all that long ago, looking through them made me go "ahh" "oh yeah" and "ha ha" to the adventures we had.

no explanation for the picture other than that is what i look like today. my hair has grown a lot since the big haircut. i like it when it's got just the right amount of product in it for it to behave.

i've got a load of laundry in the washer and at least another batch behind it as we prepare for our trip to hawaii. hooray. a big "thank you" to 6togo for all of the wonderful suggestions and advice.

i think we are mostly prepared for our 6 night trip. a bed and breakfast on the water in hilo. a cheapo hotel for a night in kona. cheapo-kona-hotel's-cheapo-counterpart-in kapaa for a night on kauai. free accommodations from trista marie for the last two nights in lihue.

we've got our plane tickets, car rentals, and reservations for the inner-tube ride through an old sugar cane plantation.

other than that, we're set for several days of adventure, relaxation, eating, and fun.

as you may have seen on jeff's site, we've decided to try to dump our place and buy ourselves a real house. i'm totally realistic about the fact that moving into an old house is going to bring its own set of issues, but at least we won't have to deal with all of the headaches and heartaches we have associated with where we are now. we have to still wait around on getting several things fixed by the builder before it goes on the market, but we are hoping it will happen in the next few weeks. wish us luck. with the real estate market the way it is, we might need it.

i'll leave you with this funny story:

i had to be at work at 6:30am for a meeting for an upcoming tradeshow, so by the time i took lunch at 1pm, i had already had a pretty full day at work.

for those of you that may not know, i work 10 minutes from home, so as usual, i came home for lunch. since i was feeling kind of groggy, i decided to take a 15 minute nap after i rushed through eating.

well...that 15 minutes turned into an hour and 15 minutes.

when i popped awake at 2:50pm, you have to imagine the confusion and eventual horror i experienced as i went through trying to figure out where i was, what i was doing there, what day it was, and that i really was supposed to have been back at work 50 minutes earlier.

fortunately, my boss was cool with it, and said it was no big deal. he had just started to worry i had gotten into a car accident or something.

and since i had been to work an hour early, i didn't feel so bad about going home at the normal time.

but it was pretty embarrassing.
