a d v e n t u r e ! f u n !

we headed out first thing yesterday morning with our friend shane for an off-roading adventure in the newly lifted jeep. we spent all day driving through the desert and along old roads through abandoned mines and sand and rocks and up hills and down hills.

he took us to an awesome abandoned mine site, where we enjoyed a clear view of the valley below until a sand storm blew through. we shifted to the protection of an old building foundation, where we ate all-we-could-eat steak, potato salad, rolls, and brownies. and beer.

jeff and i had originally planned on setting up a tent on one of the concrete foundations, but the threat of wind made us decide on trying to squeeze into the back of the jeep for the night, instead. it was a wise decision. howling winds woke me up a few times, but we were snug and extremely comfortable in the jeep. we discovered that we have just about as much room as we do on our normal bed at home, so we were both able to stretch out completely.

this morning we had oj and donuts, and packed up for the adventurous drive back down the mountain. after a quick stop for tri-tip at chuy's in temecula, we headed home, into the thick cloud of smoke from the sort-of-nearby brush fire.

we scratched up the paint in the jeep a little bit (a "sage brush bath", as jeff informed me it is called), but it was so much fun, it was ok. probably not everyone's cup of tea, with all the bouncing and rocks and dirt and lack of running water, but i had a great time driving and riding. i'm looking forward to next time. :)

i don't want this to be another entry about being stressed...but, heck, i am. sure, i got through one show this past weekend, but everything has to ship out to vegas for the biggest show of the year in 8 days. 8 DAYS!!

when i was wandering around the show on saturday, a rep for one of media groups we work with snagged me and dragged me off to a photo shoot. apparently he had put my name in the hat for a feature on up-and-coming professionals in the industry.

me?

professional?

with my funny clothes and funny hair and tattoo that sometimes shows at work?

while i may not feel like a professional, i don't think anybody can argue that i don't put a lot of effort into my job. i really do work hard most of the time. most of the time.

in other news, i don't have to cheat while i'm doing my sun salutations anymore. i can fully transition between plank, chaturanga, to cobra without needing to put my knees down. actually, i've been able to do it for a while, but i figured it didn't really count until i could do it a few weeks in a row.

there is some debate over whether or not i can really say i'm in good shape if i still can't do a real push-up, but i figure i'm about halfway there.

plus, i can actually touch my toes without bending my knees. regularly! i may have touted my ability to do it before, but that was probably from a standing position. now i can fully sit and touch my toes pretty much all day long.

the best thing is that i think the cellulite on my legs is becoming less noticeable. i've been working out fairly regularly for about the last year. there has been a week here or there that i may have missed a good workout (sick, vacations, etc), but even during those off weeks, i've been pretty active (walking, hiking).

so while you won't catch me parading around in shorty-shorts, i just MIGHT consider regular length shorts next year (versus the long shorts i always wear). that's if i can keep up the exercising.

dear vincent d'onofrio,

what the heck HAPPENED?

you are gigantic.

i don't think you can be my celebrity boyfriend anymore.

i hate to do it to you, because you've held my odd fascination and undying devotion for years and years.

but you are looking really bloated.

such a shame.

i've been in a funk all day.

work is crazy. and all i really have to look forward to this week is work.

today, i am also stressed out. and i was in a goofy mood. even though i wore a new sweater, i felt really frumpy. my pants were all wrinkled for some stupid reason, and my shirt was the wrong color for my new sweater. my hair was also crazy.

i was getting really dumb phone calls, and every time i got one thing off my desk, somehow 5 things would land on it. and my pen ran out of ink, and i don't like using the regular work pens.

and then a truck with a woodchipper parked right behind by car, and of course, i had left the top down after lunch. (fortunately, i only found one leaf in it at the end of the day.)

usually my solution when i'm in a funk is to just try to be really happy.

but i was accused of being drunk. and then i was accused of being on some sort of medication. maybe it was the sudafed.

i really REALLY want a beer tonight. i think a beer and the big lebowski might be the solution for my funk.

beer, even though i'm still getting over my cold. is it bad to drink when you are 95% over a cold? i have to be over it by friday.
