![]() s o m e w h e r e e l s e ah, mexico. this was the last morning of our trip back in february, and even though i woke up early enough to make it to breakfast, there was no way i was going to stuff myself with beans or tortillas again. instead, i walked around the resort. took some pictures. wondered if the experiences of that trip would stick with me. yeah. they have. you know how happy gilmore will close his eyes to go to his happy place, and there is his chick serving him beer, and his grandma winning a bunch of money from a slot machine? i can go to my happy place when i close my eyes, too. camilles (10:03pm, 11.25.08)
it's a struggle, and i don't usually struggle, but i'm doing what i guess i have to do to sort things out. and while everything is confusing and feels so complicated, the one thing i'm confident about is that i've got all the power to ultimately do the right thing. another one of life's adventures. hooray. camilles (9:57pm, 11.24.08)
![]() a d v e n t u r e do you have a sense adventure? and if you do, do you and the people around you nurture it so it grows? are you creative? i'm a strong believer that the people you surround yourself with should encourage you to be more than who you are when you are by yourself. that goes for friends, family, lovers. nothing makes me sadder than to hear that someone's sense of adventure or creativity is not appreciated.
![]() today i had apple pie with a slice of melted cheese on top, because it sounded good. l had seen it on the menu, and wanted to order it, and even though i had never had it before, i decided to try it, too. you only live once, right? there is something to be said for the comfort of tried and true, old and familiar...but the thrill of the unknown possibilities, good and bad, make going out on a limb every once in a while so satisfying. the pie was delicious. camilles (10:23pm, 11.23.08)
i've been selfish lately, and i don't like it. so i'm making an effort to stop whining about me, and instead, will work on making the people around me happy. while i was picking up my bedroom tonight, i started thinking about the people who mean the most to me, and what memory of a time i shared with them that i like to carry around close to my heart. just a few: l - our cruise to the caribbean. so many fun memories of being young women with money to spend on a real girl's trip. trying to sneak dinner rolls out into the water to feed the fish while we snorkeled. ben - gorging ourselves on expensive sushi for breakfast in tokyo. helen - the night we decided to get drunk, and we drank too much wine and ate cookies and were totally silly. she patted me on the back while i threw up. len - when we still worked together at the print shop, and he found an entire box full of slides of naked ladies that another coworker had found dumpster diving and had stashed away. we spent the rest of the afternoon picking out our favorites. trista - the image of her yelling canky! canky! as she flipped the light switch off and on from her crib when she was really little. 2 or 3? which means my recollection of the events could be way off, but it was something like that. jeff - our first kiss on a jetty in mission beach. there are so many more. so many more people and so many more memories. and hopefully they all have equally special memories of me. p.s. happy birthday, leslie!!!! camilles (11:17pm, 11.17.08)
![]() s t r a n g e i was recently told by a person who spends her life making money listening to people's problems that i am quite possibly one of the most logical people she has ever met. and that, of all things, is one of my problems. :) see that truck? that truck represents just a glimmer of my irrationality. it's owner likes to park it outside our complex for days at a time. and while it's legal for 72 hours, it bugs me, because everyone in my complex has to park on the street if they don't have the space in their garage (which includes us, because we've got a buick, 2 motorcycles, a vespa, and a variety of other things parked in our garage). that stupid truck easily takes up 5 or 6 prime spots right outside our front door. i've decided that i'm at war with that truck. anytime i see it out there, i'm going to call the police as soon as i know it's been sitting for 3 days. i called this morning, and was informed that while the truck might get a parking ticket, it would be 10 to 20 days before anybody would remove it. not that i'm expecting it to be there that long. i'm sure the driver will be back to work tomorrow, so he'll cruise over from his neighborhood where he hasn't been stuck looking at that eyesore for the past however-many-days, and be back to work. oh well. at least it isn't the flatbed that carries the bobcats and port-a-potty. having a port-a-potty parked outside your front door for days at a time is just GROSS.
![]() it was a really interesting weekend, and there wasn't much time spent around the house. yesterday, i ended up buying a mink stole in palm springs. today, we spent about 7 hours with some of our best friends, scraping, sanding, taping, patching, and painting. it's amazing how worn out that kind of physical labor can make you, but with a baby on the way, it was for a good cause. we were satisfied with how much we were able to get done, and look forward to the final outcome. i'm going to sleep well tonight. camilles (7:25pm, 11.16.08)

![]() h a l l o w e e n we recycled old costumes for our journey out to hillcrest on halloween night. jeff did buy some piratey boot covers at the local costume shop, but other than that, we were good to go with our previously assembled outfits.
![]() l and t had new costumes. a dog being led by a very convincing cesar millan. we saw quite the variety of costumes while we cruised around. my favorite was the guy who was dressed like a crouton. yes, a crouton. he proclaimed it to us as we were stopped at a light. camilles (8:33pm, 11.10.08)
![]() w o r s t m e a l e v e r we stopped at a restaurant called tahiti joe's before i was going to drop jeff off at the airport in las vegas last sunday night. he had heard that they had their own tiki mug, so we figured if we timed it just right, we'd swing in for a bite and a drink before he headed back to san diego. i honestly can't remember the last time i had such a horrible meal. the crab rangoons were rock hard crackers with "krab" instead of crab. jeff's chicken dinner looked like it came out of a microwave. my pear salad was made with rusty lettuce and canned pears. hrmmm... :| i had about 3 bites of my salad, and gave up.
![]() jeff's flight ended up being delayed, which meant we were able to go for a dinner #2 at the hofbrauhaus, which was much more satisfying. i made it through the week. it wasn't bad, but i'm glad to be home.
![]() the more years that i do what i do, the more people i recognize, and the more they recognize me. the guy in the blue shirt had been the host of a fairly popular automotive television show until about a year ago when he decided to take a break. it's weird, because he totally knows who i am, and will cruise by our booth to come say hi and chat for a little bit. while i was waiting in the hotel hallway for breakfast one morning, a host on a different tv show (who i've only met a few times) came walking by. i recognized him, but i didn't want to bother him so early in the morning...but he stopped when he saw me just to see what i was up to, and even remembered my name. i'm not exactly the type to be star struck, it's still kind of cool that these people who are so busy, who meet thousands of people over the course of every year, actually remember me.
![]() when people go to las vegas, they probably think they'll hit casinos and clubs. when i go to las vegas, i ended up watching guys breakdancing...
![]() ...or finding the swap meet to drink beers at 11am and look at pickup trucks full of grapes. camilles (3:21pm, 11.9.08)
![]() t e m p o r a r y for any of you who thought towel animals were only for cruise ships... now they are making appearances at my hotel. i'd say "hotel room," but it's more like an apartment, complete with full kitchen, washer/dryer, living room, bedroom, bathroom, and jacuzzi tub. and i'd feel a little guilty about the luxury if it weren't for the fact that i know the guys who choose to stay at the hotel next door are paying the exact same amount per night for a plain old hotel room.
![]() so i'm in my little palace for the week. my feet are already starting to hurt, and the show hasn't even really started, yet. and i already know for a fact, that this year just isn't going to be the same. *sigh* ... we got word yesterday that a gentleman we know, a guy who was an everyday character in the social lives we've partially built around the internet, a guy idolized for his questionable taste in women, and all around good person that nobody really could say a bad word about...had passed away. he'd been on a ride with his scooter club, lost control going through a notoriously dangerous curve, and ended up being hit after riding into oncoming traffic. in the 11 plus years i've been wasting my time with a bunch of car geeks, he's the first of the crew that we actually know to die. we'd JUST been talking about him the night before. it's kind of surreal. so, here's to you, robert fox. and here's to hoping you've got plenty of questionable women and scooters to rinde in the sky. :) camilles (5:05pm, 11.3.08)
