i took this photo of myself almost exactly one year ago. weird, huh? my hair was so long and stringy and flat on my head! :) i'm such a low maintenance type of gal, long hair just doesn't suit my lifestyle. but i grew it for the kids.

how much has changed in a year? lots of things and no things, i guess.

lebowski fest west is this weekend, and i'm sure it's going to be a blast. words can not describe what attending one of these events is like, and it's better left to be experienced rather than explained.

a change of plans, and it looks like i might be headed to singapore with my hubby in the spring, rather than china like previously thought. gotta get that passport updated.

today was my last day of parking in the employee-of-the-month parking spot. that was me, this month. woot woot.

what is your favorite book? or favorite book genre? tell me. i'm really curious.

i'm only asking because i was thumbing through my army survival handbook again this evening, marveling at all you can accomplish with a hatchet and matches. did you know that a beaver is a very sturdy animal? if you happen to catch one, you need to swing it around by it's tail, over your head and then into a tree. and then you can eat it and make soap out of it.

somehow leanne knew that would be the type of book i could read forever. and we both enjoy the fact that we know that a beaver is a very sturdy animal.

and on the topic of beavers, sign of the beaver is another one of my favorite books. and the swiss family robinson (which i read for a book report one time, and then my teacher asked about something that happened in the story...which happened only in the movie and not the book...and while i thought for a brief second he was trying to trip me up, realized that no...he just had never read the book.)

my odd tidbit of the day.

that's a picture of me in front of the house my dad grew up in, in locke, ca. you can see all the pictures jeff took HERE.

i have all sorts of snippets of memories of visiting locke as a kid, because my grandparents were in the house until they passed away. since my grandmother passed away when i was in junior high, i had only been back to visit the area once about 7 or 8 years ago.

it's a funny little place right next to the river, with a lot of history in that it is the only town in the united states founded and built entirely by chinese immigrants for themselves back in the 1910s.

i was hoping to find the red t-shirts that said locke, ca in chinese and english that my sisters and i had when we were kids...but the only t-shirts i could find just weren't the same.

my dad's old house has been renovated since i saw it last, and is now for rent only for commercial use. over the years, locke has become something of an artist community, so i guess it only makes sense that somebody would want to put an art gallery in dad's house.

we spent the rest of the weekend doing all sorts of stuff. we stayed with helen in san francisco, met up with andy for dinner, went to a crazy hipster art-music party that jesse got us into, hung out with chris and bruce, and took a leisurely drive down the coast from monterey to san luis obispo, ate at firestone grill, spent a little time in a mineral spring hot tub, drove to camarillo to hang out and have lunch with my folks, drove to san clemente to see greg's new place and have dinner...and then drove home.

would you believe we were only gone 2 nights?

i almost put up a photo of myself from new year's eve, but decided not to. it wasn't a good night for me, and although i'm giggling looking through them, i'd say they are better off left locked away on our computer...for now.

thanks to a friend, i was able to pick up a cheapo laptop for my own personal use. i'm very excited to have my own computer again, although, i admit, i'll probably just use it to surf the internet and play on myspace (curse-ed myspace!)...for now.

and sort of myspace related, an old friend of mine from high school contacted me a while back and we've been catching up. he recently won the GRAND PRIZE for the film he entered into the 64 Second Film Contest! how cool is that? he's an extremely talented young(-er than me, at least) artist, and i just think it's so neat to be able to see him doing so well for himself. make sure to check out his film, called "at a glance".

speaking of high school, the 10 year reunion is coming up. $75/person had better get us a cooler event than our prom. plus it's the same weekend i'm supposed to be in las vegas setting up for our biggest trade show of the year, so i don't even know how i'm going to juggle all that.

but i'm not going to miss it.

unlike a lot of the rest of the working world, i have monday off. jeff and i will be making a quick roadtrip to san francisco and back. pictures to come, i'm sure.

granted, we were all a few sheets to the wind. but i was offering to fight the guy in the floppy hat for being a jerk that night. see my fist of fury, clenched and ready to make connection?

i was probably especially riled up, because he hit on me that evening, too. made some sort of comment about how he could tell i was smart from the way i looked after findng out i graduated from ucsd. huh? ok.

for the record, we were on a birthday beer golf pub crawl in pacific beach with greg and some of his buddies. by "hole 6" we were crying uncle, and broke off from the group to enjoy some tasty seafood.

i was mortified by the number the hair stylist did on me yesterday, until i got home and was able to add a little "product" to the do. now it really isn't so bad. it actually will stay like this until i wash it or sleep on it or wet it down, so i'm actually quite pleased.

while i drove home from my doctor's appointment this afternoon (and seriously, do men have ANY idea of how crazy a female's year appointment is?), i was contemplating bleaching it blond. but i don't know.

the good news from the doctor? i'm actually 5'6", which means i can update my myspace profile accordingly. and i haven't gained any weight in the past 5 or so years. 113 with my clothes on. gotta enjoy that while it lasts.

hope you all have great valentine's days! i think jeff and i might try to celebrate tonight to avoid the crowd. we've already got plans with some of our unattached buddies for tomorrow night...so if you are in the SD area and looking for some nice single guys, you should be able to find us at the Liar's Club in mission beach around 6:30 or 7.

peace out, napoleon.
